Andrei Kasheuski, an activist of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party, was detained on July 1 for distributing leaflets. He was taken to the police department and kept there for 3 days. Andrei’s mother called the police many times, but was only told on the fourth day where here son was. During this time Kasheuski was not given any food. On July 4 he was sentenced to 10 days arrest due to hooliganism. (05.07.2011)
The Belarusian Popular Front Party has received a ruling ordering it to vacate its office in Minsk within 7 days. The rulings are signed by the court marshal. The party has been threatened that “sanctions” would apply otherwise. Yet the party members do not intend to leave their office. (07.07.2011)
A number of 1730 persons were on the whole detained in Belarus during 5 protest actions called “Revolution by social networks”. Most people, around 980, were detained in Minsk. Many of them were fined or put in custody. According to reports of the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) six journalists were brought into trial after the protest actions. They were sentenced to arrest periods between 3 and 12 days. (07.07.2011)
