Hundreds of people have been sentenced to up to 15 days in prison following their protests in Minsk on 19 December 2010. According to Belarusian Human Rights Center Viasna at the moment 23 people face up to 15 years of imprisonment as suspects in a criminal case over “mass riots”. Furthermore 3 more activists, detained ahead of the rally are facing criminal charges for “disorderly conduct”.
Libereco recognises all these detainees in Belarus as political prisoners and calls for the immediate and unconditional release.

To show your solidarity please also take a picture of you, your family and friends while holding a personal message to the victims of human rights violations in front of you. For this please choose a message like “We will stand by you” or “We wish you a free and happy new year” or something similar. Please send your pictures also to hope lphr.org
We will publish all pictures online to show a great international and belarusian support with the political prisoners in Belarus.

Both, greetings and pictures will be passed to the detainees. Please join our action and spread it to your friends to bring some light to the grey prison cells of the datainees in Belarus.
Some tips for writing your greetings:
- you should send your greetings to an individual person, please choose one from the list below
- please no outbursts of emotion, no pathos, no tears – if you are in prison you have enough to deal with without that
- please greet the prisoners with joy and faith in a brighter future, expressing your personal solidarity and support
- please note that the orthodox Christmas in Belarus will be celebrated on 6th and 7th of January, so you could wish all detainees a Merry Christmas until these dates
