Nine students of the Vaukavysk Pedagogical College, who were among 13 detained participants of silent protests “Revolution through social networks”, were summoned to the KGB. KGB officers visited their college and seized personal files of the protesters. According to students, the college staff does not tell them anything, but rumours about an expulsion have appeared. The national telecommunications operator Beltelecom organized a phishing attack during the action “Revolution through social networks”. Everyone who tried to open the page of the action from Belarus was automatically redirected to a fake page. This information was confirmed by numerous users. It is not the first time when the Belarusian security services act like criminals. The Charter’97 website has been under a DDoS attack, preceded by a virus attack on Belarusian users, for the third week. Users were redirected to a fake infected site by Beltelecom. The same occurred on the election day, when all users from Belarus who tried to load independent news websites were redirected to spoof sites. (22.06.2011)
Thousands of young Belarusians took to the streets in the capital Minsk and other Belarusian cities on Wednesday. They were silently walking on the main streets of their cities and occasionally clapping. The police detained over 460 people, including many journalists. More than a half of the detentions took place outside of Minsk. This is the first time a significant number of protesters took to the streets simultaneously in several major Belarusian cities. The organizers of "The Social Network Revolution" promised more protests in the future. (23.06.2011)
Some 20 participants of Wednesday’s protest in downtown Minsk have stood trials one afternoon later. As a result, all of them were found guilty of committing an offence under Art. 17.1 of the Administrative Code (disorderly conduct) and sentenced to fines ranging between BYR 70,000 and BYR 1,050,000. One of the detainees – Usevalad Yatskou – was reportedly questioned by the KGB before standing trial at Minsk Tsentralny District Court. (23.06.2011)
Hronda court continues the hearing the case of journalist Andrei Pachobut, who is facing charges for libel and insult of President Lukashenka. At a court session on 24 June, the state prosecutor demanded 3 years of imprisonment for the Polish “Gazeta Wyborcza” reporter. The trial is due to be resumed on 28 June. (24.06.2011)
