Libereco launches a petition for the respect of freedom of religion in Belarus. For several years, the evangelic New Life Church in Minsk has been facing strong repressions by the Belarusian authorities. The community is fearing to be dislodged from its own land. Furthermore, the church was charged with environmental contamination and ordered to pay a fine of approx. 100.000 USD.

Libereco calls on all individuals, organisations, churches and media to urge a stop of the repressions of the New Life Church as well as the respect of freedom of religion in Belarus.

 

Libereco considers the procedure against the New Life Church a gross violation of the freedom of religion. In compliance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Belarus is obliged to adhere the religious freedom. The expropriation of the New Life Church would implicate that the members of the community would not have a place to gather for religious services and for expressing their beliefs anymore.
