We no longer tolerate Lukashenka’s regime! We call on everyone to stand up for the rule of law and democracy in Belarus. Do you want to support the democratic movement in Belarus? You’ll find more information here.

What can you do?

    1. Call on your members of parliament in the German Bundestag or the Swiss National Council and Council of States to exert political pressure or write a letter to the Belarusian ambassador in your country. Here you’ll find the letter templates to the Belarusian ambassadors in Germany and in Switzerland (templates in German).
    2. Sign the petition to the Belarusian university directors in order to stop the repression against the Belarusian students.
    3. Organize a webinar or an event about the human rights situation in Belarus with your local political group.
    4. Write a letter or a postcard to a political prisoner. Get involved in an NGO or political party that campaigns for the rights of Belarusians. For example, you can engage yourself with Viasna or Libereco. Your support is needed now more than ever!
    5. Share this video or other information about the situation of the people in Belarus on your social media channels.

The situation in Belarus

279 people are currently being detained as political prisoners in Belarus. They are being detained because the political leadership in the country wants to frighten the peaceful demonstrators. Thousands of people in Belarus have been demonstrating on the streets every day since the presidential election on August 9th. No matter whether in summer or winter, whether old or young, whether teacher, worker, artist or Nobel Prize winner for literature. The people demonstrate for their basic rights and for democratic elections. They are calling for the resignation of Alexander Lukashenka, who committed electoral fraud. The EU and many national governments have already strongly condemned his actions. The regime is cracking down on the demonstrators and arresting members of the opposition. This includes bloggers, journalists, activists, but also normal demonstrators, regardless of age, gender or social background. Recently, an increasing number of students have been arrested or de-registered from their universities for speaking out against the regime. Political prisoners are often denied fair trials in custody and sometimes even wait months for a verdict. It is not uncommon for them to be physically and psychologically abused in prison. We can no longer tolerate these circumstances. As young, political people we have to send a clear message. We want freedom and democracy! It is our job to pay closely attention and to interfere when human rights are so severely neglected as in Belarus.

Show your solidarity.

Show attitude.

Together, as democrats.
