Campax and Libereco started a campaign calling Switzerland to extend sanctions against the Belarusian regime.

Switzerland must impose sanctions against Belarusian individuals and companies, such as the European Union did. In addition, the sanctions must be extended to members of the security forces, the judiciary and the state media.

In Belarus, the population has been demonstrating against dictator Alexander Lukashenka since August 2020. Over 33,000 people have been arbitrarily detained. The police violence is huge. There have been at least 1,000 reports of state torture by the end of 2020.

The European Union has imposed sanctions on 88 senior officials and functionaries as well as 7 companies through three sanction packages. Switzerland has only partially joined these sanctions.

During her visit to Geneva and Berne, the Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya called on Switzerland to adopt all the EU sanctions and also to impose sanctions on lower officials.

We support the Belarusian opposition in its struggle for freedom and democracy and therefore demand an immediate extension of the sanctions against the Belarusian regime.
