Almost exactly 17 months after her arrest on 19. September 2020, Natallia Hersche was finally released on 18. February and brought back to Switzerland.
There, Natallia was welcomed by Libereco, Razam Switzerland, Campax and ACAT Switzerland together with National Councillor Barbara Gysi at Zurich airport with many flowers and chocolates.
We are very happy about her release and thank everyone who campaigned for it together with us: by signing our petitions, by participating in vigils or by sending numerous letters and postcards to Natallia in prison.
After her return to Switzerland, we wish Natallia all the strength she needs to deal with the stressful experiences of her imprisonment in Belarus and to recover from the health consequences.
But as much as we are happy about Natallia’s release, we are equally concerned about the continued imprisonment of more than 1000 other political prisoners in Belarus and the current threatening situation around Belarus, Ukraine and Russia.
As Libereco, we will continue to campaign for the release of all political prisoners in Belarus.
